Dr. Caputo has extensive knowledge and experience regarding the placement of dental implants.  For example, in 2012, Dr. Caputo graduated from the Georgia Health Science Center Maxicourse of Dental Implant Education, which required completion of a 10 month, 300 hour course.  He has been placing implants for 12 years, which includes placing, on average, over 15 implants per month. He also attends yearly training as part of his continuing education.

Dental implants have become the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. They provide a strong, stable, and durable foundation for high quality replacement teeth. They restore nearly all of the original bite strength, and they can halt or even reverse bone loss in the jaw.

Like any other dental procedure, dental implants are not right for everyone. We will assess your current oral and physical health before we begin. Those with underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes should get those under control before any oral surgery, and those who need other dental work such as fillings or root canals must have those procedures done first. In addition, if you suffer from severe jawbone loss, you may need bone grafting before we can proceed. We will let you know whether you are a candidate for dental implants and what needs to happen before your implant surgery.

Single Tooth Dental Implants

A single dental implant can support one dental crown. During a minor oral surgery procedure, a tiny sliver of biocompatible titanium is inserted into the jawbone. It is topped with a healing cap or cover screw and allowed to heal for several weeks, during which it fuses with the bone. Then the healing cap or cover screw is removed and an abutment is used to attach the implant to a custom-crafted crown.

Implant Supported Bridges

Implant Supported Bridge

An implant supported bridge can replace three or more missing teeth in a row. Dental implants at each end are used to support the bridge, protecting the natural teeth. This is a highly functional and natural-looking restoration.

Implant Supported Dentures

Just two dental implants can add strength and stability to a removable denture. A handful of implants can support an entire arch of fixed, high quality replacement teeth. Both solutions are considered superior to traditional dentures, which are prone to slipping and pinching and restore just a fraction of bite strength.

All-on-Four

Full Arch with Only 4 Implants

The All-on-Four is a unique dental implant solution for patients who are missing all of their teeth on the upper or lower arch. Using just 4 dental implants, we can place a fixed set of replacement teeth at the same appointment. You will not need to wear a temporary denture during the healing process.

Guided Implant Placement

Guided Implant Placement

With this technique, specialized software is used to create custom surgical guides. These guides direct the exact location, angle, and depth of each implant placement. The use of the guide increases the accuracy, efficiency, safety, and predictability of the procedure.

Can dental implants be done in one day?

Traditionally, dental implants are done in three steps.

The first would be the extraction of the diseased tooth followed by possible bone grafting. Not all patients will require this step but the dentist will evaluate your case.

Step two will occur 3-4 months after the first step and the evaluation is complete. Once the dentist determines you are ready, the implant post will be placed. The healing process is at least 3-4 months before your second evaluation will occur.

Step three consists of the final completion of the dental implant. After your second evaluation, the dentist will start the process to prepare your abutment and crown to complete this procedure and finalize your dental implant.

Cases do vary and some implants may be placed on the same day as the extraction. The dentist may recommend the need for a temporary crown to be placed while the implant process is finished. This is determined by the dentist and patient on a case by case basis.

How long does it take for dental implants to heal?

Once a dental implant is placed it takes typically about 3-4 months for the implant to integrate. This is a process that allows the bone to form around the implant.

Are dental implants as strong as natural teeth?

Dental implants are the ideal option to replace natural teeth. They are made of titanium and designed to last for many years or a lifetime. Dental implants are the procedure of choice for longevity and the function for replacing naturally missed teeth.

Are dental implants safe for senior citizens?

Yes, there are no restrictions on age for dental implants. Dental implant cases are always evaluated before the procedure to determine the optimal level of bone for the procedure. Dental implants are ideal for securing poorly fitting dentures or even dentures in general. Dental implants are the conservative and ideal scenario for the replacement of natural teeth and to secure upper and lower dentures.

What’s the difference between dentures and implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that are placed to create one of two things. Dental implants can replace natural teeth (single) or they can be placed for securing dentures. Dentures are acrylic plates that replace all teeth. Many times dentures need more retention instead of using denture adhesive which can be very messy and not ideal. Implants are placed to secure the denture. Single tooth implants require crowns and abutments to closely resemble the natural tooth appearance. Both options are the ideal choice due to the longevity and function of dental implants overall.
